Llandaff High Handicap GC team visits CPCC

On Friday 28th June CPCC’s High Handicap team welcomed 6 players from Llandaff on a fine, if slightly chilly day. The excellent condition of our lawns was appreciated by the visitors, whose home is a former bowls club converted to two fairly small croquet lawns. After the first 3 rounds of games, the score stood at 6-all, so all to play for after the buffet lunch provided by CPCC team members. In the afternoon, Llandaff just shaded it, ending up 11-9 winners. Croquet can be a game of very small margins – the afternoon session saw some very close games, with two draws and two which we lost on the golden hoop. CPCC’s most successful player was Angela Crofts, with 2 wins and 2 draws from 5 games. All of Llandaff’s points came from 4 of their players, with Hazel Bowen belying her 14 handicap by winning 4 of her 5 games.
