5+A Team in narrow defeat to Taunton Deane

The Level Play 5+ A Team were at home to Taunton Deane on Friday 14th June. Thundery showers were forecast and arrived with vigour in short but heavy downpours, causing several games to be forestalled mid-game. Then the clouds were gone and a bright warm sun was drying  the lawns. This made for interesting playing conditions, starting a game on a dry lawn, followed by a short stop for the rain then continuing on a very wet surface which was quickly drying out.

The match scores, like the weather,  swung back and forth. Even, at 2 points each after the first round, Taunton then pulled ahead with 3 points to 1 in the second round, CPCC came back winning 3 points to 1 in the third round. At lunch we were 6 points each, still even at 8 points each after the next round but then Taunton pulled ahead with 3 points to 1 in the last round resulting in an 11 points to 9 win for the visitors.

Pete Buchanan, Simon Dunk and Nigel Wulcko shared player of the match with 2 wins each.

The following picture shows the tussle for the final hoop of the final game between Simon dunk and Lorne Loxter-Kamp. U

Unbelievably, it took 17 shots before the hoop was finally scored by Simon!
